Crime Problem, not Gun Problem
We have a crime problem, not a gun problem. We have 12-15 million illegal immigrants in this country. We have a judicial system that lets criminals walk with a slap on the wrist and refuse to enforce laws that they disagree with.
But also consider these facts: We also kill 3000 people in the womb every day in the name of personal "choice." We have a president who refused to vote against infanticide and billionaire "philanthropists" who are more interested in funding birth control than legitimate healthcare. We have a healthcare law that makes birth control free but doesn't provide for a single new doctor, hospital or drug. All the criminals are doing are applying the same values in a more violent fashion.
Gun violence versus knife violence
In 1994, an American youth was slightly more likely to be victimized with a knife than with a gun. In 2010, American youth who were victims of a serious violent crime were 6x more likely to have been attacked by a perpetrator wielding a knife than one wielding a gun.
Morgan Freeman re Sandy Hook Massacre
I'm not a fan of much of what Morgan Freeman thinks these days, but I do agree with this. Attributed to Morgan Freeman, spotted on Facebook 12-15-2012.
You want to know why. This may sound cynical, but here's why.
It's because of the way the media reports it. Flip on the news and watch how we treat the Batman theater shooter and the Oregon mall shooter like celebrities. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris are household names, but do you know the name of a single victim of Columbine? Disturbed people who would otherwise just off themselves in their basements see the news and want to top it by doing something worse, and going out in a memorable way. Why a grade school? Why children? Because he'll be remembered as a horrible monster, instead of a sad nobody.
CNN's article says that if the body count "holds up", this will rank as the second deadliest shooting behind Virginia Tech, as if statistics somehow make one shooting worse than another. Then they post a video interview of third-graders for all the details of what they saw and heard while the shootings were happening. Fox News has plastered the killer's face on all their reports for hours. Any articles or news stories yet that focus on the victims and ignore the killer's identity? None that I've seen yet. Because they don't sell. So congratulations, sensationalist media, you've just lit the fire for someone to top this and knock off a day care center or a maternity ward next.
You can help by forgetting you ever read this man's name, and remembering the name of at least one victim. You can help by donating to mental health research instead of pointing to gun control as the problem. You can help by turning off the news.

Response to Sandy Hook
Is [the Sandy Hook] tragedy going to change the way you look at the culture and society in which you live? Will you rethink spending an hour or two playing a first-person shooter? Will you reconsider watching that violent movie or TV show? Will you notice the dark and disturbing currents in popular culture? Will it bother you that a song about shooting people can become a #1 hit? Or will you just keep being a good consumer?
Violence in media and gun control
Hollywood liberals make fortunes glorifying violence and making violence look acceptable, and then blame conservatives for gun violence.
