Sidney "Jay" Bienvenu was born in Lafayette, Louisiana, on December 12, 1975, the son of two career educators, the oldest of three children. He graduated from the elite Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts. After high school he attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where he earned two degrees: a Bachelor of Science in computer engineering, and a Master of Science degree in telecommunications.

Jay has worked as a programmer for most of the time since he completed school. Early in his career, he worked as an independent developer, providing software solutions and technical support to local businesses. After freelancing for four years, Jay decided to forego the flexibility and feast-and-famine nature of the freelance manner for the stability of working full time. Over the course of a decade, Jay developed software for a casino, an EMR software company, multiple manufacturers, and various government entities. He developed desktop applications, databases, websites, and retail software.

In his spare time, Jay works on personal projects that exercise his creativity, problem-solving skills and unique thinking. These projects include such varied things as an online role-playing system, a constructed written language, and a card game. He studies programming, linguistics, modern and archaic languages, politics and religion.

Jay prides himself on being creative, adaptable, ambitious and optimistic. Few things make him happier than to make something new. His childhood curiosity into programming languages prepared him for a career in a landscape of constant evolution. His ambition pulls him into the world, looking for the next big thing. And his optimism keeps him going through each failure or setback.

Jay believes that his greatest milestone is ahead of him. He has spent the last two decades writing software and developing other people's visions. He wants to be not just a developer of code but a designer and developer of ideas and concepts. He wants to bring his vision and creativity to a new endeavor (or an existing one). He wants to be able to look back on his career and say that his work mattered, that it made a difference to a community or a cause.
